I don’t usually post this type of stuff to my blog, but I thought it was too good not to. Those of you in the Jacksonville area have probably seen advertisements on Facebook for a company called Shipt who does your shopping and delivers your groceries from Publix. Shipt is in no way affiliated with Publix. I recently signed up and wanted to give you some details and perspective! I hope you find this helpful! Also, this is in NO WAY a sponsored post. This is just my own personal thoughts and experience.
First, I’ll paint you a lovely little picture. I’m a mom of two and 27 weeks pregnant with our third. Our oldest is 3 and her sister is 1. I’m also a business owner. Clearly, a busy lady, but am up to the task of running my household, like anyone. To go to the grocery store to do a normal load of grocery shopping, I first have to plan in advance. The day I go, I get myself ready, my girls ready and fed and then loaded into the van and then go to the store. I unload the girls and PRAY there is a “race car cart” available, because if there’s not…. well, kids are not pleased. Get over it. Life is full of way bigger disappointments than no race car carts… but 3 year olds don’t get that… haha! Anyway, I spend at least an hour to an hour and a half quickly shopping around the store, pushing a cart that gets very heavy and whisking around trying to make sure I get everything on my list. Then I check out. This is usually the time my 1 year old starts getting tired and ready for her nap. Basically, that means she starts getting super fussy. We check out, I load them in the van, load the groceries in the van, take the cart back to some cart return, and by the time I get in the van, I’m exhausted, sweaty, and my cankles are the size of softballs, but it doesn’t end there. Then we go back home, unload the girls, unload the groceries, put the 1 year old down for a nap, come back downstairs, give the 3 year old a snack, and then I finally get to cleaning out the fridge and putting the new groceries away. Before I know it, I’ve spent 3+ hours from start to finish.
Enter Shipt. When I saw this service, I thought about it but didn’t think it was for me. I figured paying someone to do my grocery shopping was a waste of money, however, I’ve learned over time that there are just some conveniences I’m willing to pay for… like Amazon Prime. I figured it would be some unreasonable about of money, but I’m here to tell you that I’m sold.
My husband didn’t like the idea of paying for something either one of us could do. So I signed up for the $14 per month plan just to see if it is a good fit for us. Before I dive into it, let me give you the run down of how they work. They have two plans. They have a $99 per year plan (which if you catch it in pre-launch is $49) or a $14 per month plan. No contracts so if you don’t like the monthly plan, cancel whenever. Groceries are marked up slighly, but nothing unreasonable. I mean, the shopper needs to get paid somehow. For example, my publix brand gallon jugs of water are normally .79, but with Shipt, they’re .89. Big deal. I read one article that said for every $35 you spend, you’re spending about an extra $5, again, which I’m ok with. For either plan, there is a minimum of $35, however if you need something delivered and don’t need $35 worth of groceries, there’s a $7 fee. With those two plans, you get unlimited deliveries for orders over $35. Like Uber, you go onto your phone app, order your groceries and schedule a time for it to be delivered. Many times, you can have it delivered in as little as an hour. Once you place your order, a Shipt shopper “claims” the order, which basically means they’ve put their hand up and said, “I’ll do it!” And you’re on your way.
I should go on to tell you just how much cleaning I was able to get done today knowing that the grocery shopping was taken care of, but not sure anyone really cares. My shopper texted me when she was on her way to Publix to let me know if I needed to add anything that I may have forgotten, she would be there soon to start shopping. I, in fact, had three items I needed to add. I tried to add them in the app, but it gave me an error saying that because the delivery time was within one hour, I could not modify my order. I relayed that info to the shopper and she said to call them to add it, as she had had this experience with a previous customer. So, in the app, I clicked “Contact” and then the “phone” icon and before I knew it, I was connected to a really friendly, helpful rep who was able to get those items added and she reached out to the shopper to notify them. During the time she was shopping, she texted me to let me know when there were items I had added that were no available and asked if I wanted substitutions or anything. For example, I saw Turkey stock on the shopping app that I added to my cart since Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Now… I’ve looked for that stuff before and haven’t ever found it, so I thought it was a new addition to the store. She texted me to let me know they did not have it, which I wasn’t surprised by, and asked if I wanted an alternative, which I did not, so she didn’t get anything to substitute. She was on top of things and awesome. I will say, however, I did ask for my roast to be taken to the butcher and have it ground through the grinder twice (for meatballs) and she didn’t do that. I had that in the instructions, but I’ll give her a pass on that! lol!.
After all was said and done, I spent $153 and some change, which is typical for us. She brought it straight into the house and, with a friendly smile, she was on to her next endeavor.
I’m HIGHLY satisfied in what I’ve paid thus far for this service. Afterwards, you can choose to leave a tip within the app for your shopper. I’m very excited to have come across this so close to Thanksgiving as well… Now I don’t have to do Thanksgiving shopping!! SCORE!
