Alison and I have known each other for 5 years now. Over the years, we’ve shot a LOT for each other. You may remember my maternity session with Ellie from last year. Everyone SWOONED over our tea party. Alison did those pictures. Remember Carly’s newborn pictures in her room? Yup, she did those too.
Alison and I have come to always just do pictures for each other. It’s sometimes hard to find someone willing to shoot for you whenever you want and be willing to trade. It’s also hard to relinquish your creative control and let someone else do the shooting, but when you find someone whose style you love, you somehow have a sort of awkward conversation where you both were wanting the same thing but were too scared to ask.
“How about when I need photos, you do mine and when you need them, I’ll do yours?” Sounds like a simple question right? Wrong. It’s really means, “I always need creative control, but I’m willing to give it to you if you are willing to give it to me, and I want to edit my own pictures, but I want you to use them how you want to.” It also means, “I not only value you, but I think so highly of you and your work that I want you to be MY photographer. I want you to be part of MY life and the lives of my family. It means you’ll be there for so many of our important occasions and I TRUST you.” Sometimes it also means you’ll see things you may not want to see… like my bloated postpartum boob hanging out while I’m trying to breastfeed my newborn. Eh, what are you gonna do? Pregnancy makes any woman not care about who sees what. lol!
Anyway, I had the pleasure of photographing Alison’s family a few weeks back. Not only am I honored and happy to do them, but I love going over to her house and seeing them all printed and on her walls. It’s very rewarding. Anyway, Alison’s family is amazing, beautiful, and I love them dearly! Here are a few of my favorites. Happy Friday.
